20 anni fa New York e il mondo intero venivano scossi dall’attentato alle Torri Gemelle. Un evento epocale, tanto che la data 11 settembre 2001 non ha bisogno di ulteriori presentazioni. Ma non per tutti gli addetti ai lavori è stato un avvenimento, nella sua grande rilevanza, tale da “aver cambiato il mondo”, come invece vuole la narrazione più classica. Più che l’attentato, ha pesato il modo in cui gli USA hanno deciso di reagire…

Over time, environmental issues have been stereotyped a lot. Perceived as very secondary, almost useless. Apart from a few “green” fanatics. In the news they always reach the bottom, in the working world they are seen as marginal occupations, in daily life no weight. The sun, the moon, the sky, everything is still there as we have always seen it. At the end. These themes can attract compassion or mockery. At best a certain boredom… until something has been changed. Or not?
Diary from a Roman quarantine… and a half
We are (almost) done. Maybe. And we are here to tell our point of view… without taking into account the deaths, the infected, the people without home or job, or both, the deep discomfort for a lost freedom, fear, uncertainty of the present and the future… we are “fine”. Coronavirus, a chance to walk on the other side
When the whole world was looking at Italy with worry, the virus was spreading everywhere else. This is because that worry wasn’t always “genuine”, but more often led by a stereotypical consideration of Italy, (one of) the“open flank” of Europe. With all the lack of controls and weak structures… (allusion by some news from England), being the country of disorganization and slowness “par excellence” (tacit from some French news). A smile is universal communication. But not that much
In 2015, a group of researchers of the University of Wisconsin-Madison formulated their own theory on why, somewhere, people are more inclined to smile. The answer is to be found in immigration and multiculturalism. The United States and Canada have a diverse population, composed by 83 and 63 different national or ethnic groups each. Non verbal communication played a central role in socializing and building trustful relationships among communities. This is not needed in more uniform countries…
Fascismo rosso, (in)attese convergenze
Tante volte si è sentito equiparare fascismo e comunismo senza nessun distinguo, grossolanamente accomunati in uno stesso calderone. Le radici delle due ideologie sono totalmente diverse, antitetiche se vogliamo, sembra assurdo pensare a convergenze fra due sistemi così incompatibili. Bordertown, arriva in Italia il nuovo cartone sull’immigrazione
Negli Stati Uniti ha esordito ad inizio 2016, il 3 gennaio, il 4 maggio approderà anche in Italia, trasmesso dal canale Fox Animation di Sky. È Bordertown, il nuovo cartone ideato da Mark Hentemann e prodotto da Seth McFarlane, cervelli dietro al successo dei Griffin.
Il filone è più o meno lo stesso dei precedenti cortometraggi animati, più apprezzati dagli adulti per una comicità apparentemente cinica ma che fa riflettere su svariati temi. Bordertown entra più a fondo nella stretta attualità: come fa intendere il titolo, che vuol dire città di confine, l’argomento principale della serie è l’immigrazione, nello specifico dal Messico agli Stati Uniti…
Keep calm and… il presente non è poi così male
Talvolta non vi sembra di vivere in una realtà completamente diversa rispetto a quella che poi vedete accendendo la tv, navigando su internet, sfogliando i giornali…? È come se ci fosse, da una parte, il mondo descritto dai media, fatto di crisi, catastrofi e terrorismi, e dall’altra il proprio mondo, quello che sperimentiamo direttamente ogni giorno, fatto di persone quantomeno decenti. Nessun corrotto o immigrato violento all’orizzonte. Nessuno stupratore. Nessuna bomba. Ma allora qual è la realtà? “Molto meglio di quanto la maggior parte di noi non sospetti”…
